Last week and this week I am writing a pair of posts addressed to those who just received their bar exam results. If you did not receive happy news, you may wish to revisit last week's post about what to do if you did not pass the bar exam. This week, I will address those who passed the bar exam.
First of all, congratulations! You deserve a big pat on the back. All your hard work and perseverance have paid off and soon you will be able to officially call yourself a licensed New York attorney.
Unfortunately, a license to practice law is not a guarantee of a job. So now that you have passed the bar exam, what should you do to best position yourself to take advantage of jobs that are out there for admitted attorneys?
1. Update your resume. See this post about how to state your bar status on a resume.
2. Seek admission as soon as possible. Admission to the bar will separate you from other candidates who are not yet admitted. Follow the steps for admission as soon as possible and get your paperwork in as early as possible to get an early date for your interview and swearing in. Do not delay.
3. Conduct a proactive job search. Use the advice on the post-graduation job search in this post.
